SportsBettingChamp | NBA Betting Preview
It's hard to believe that the new NBA season is already here. Again, I will be using my own picks along with the picks from The SportsBettingChamp System.
The Celtic's great playoff run seems to have just happened. But as always, I know that when I am seeing MLB playoffs on TV that the NBA season is just around the corner. I get excited and look forward to checking out some preseason action as I start to evaluate teams and rank them for my NBA betting system.
When I start to do this I always use last years NBA team scorecard as my base for coming up with this years NBA team rankings. I then review each team, looking at specific criteria and applying a score for each one. These are then totalled and that number becomes the teams "score". Some of the criteria that I use are home and away records, player changes, team offense, team defense and impact players. Now how you rate this depends on last years information, as well as a projection of this years performance. I do use a few others, but some of these are running numbers once the season starts, like winning streak, current injuries
I realize that a lot of these numbers can be arbitrary. There is no magic number when you are trying to pick a number to apply to a teams offence or any of the other categories. Just remember, there are a lot of teams to rank and some have to be high and some will be low. As you go through it, it will all fall into place, and you should see the stronger teams appearing and your list will be similar to last years list of even last years final team standings. It will make sense. The changes will be small, based on some player movement and things like that, but the small changes are where you can gain the betting edge. You know that the Lakers and Celtics are going to be at or very near the top and that teams like the Pistons and Spurs will be trying to catch them.
I will also be using The SportsBettingChamp System again. I do realize that there have been a lot of questions about its performance during the 2008 MLB season, but I can't question last year NBA betting picks. When next years MLB season rolls around, I will have to take a hard look at using it and there's a good chance I won't.

SportsBettingChamp Review - MLB Betting June 2008
The SportsBettingChamp System had a decent June. Some of it depends on how hard the 2 losses hit you. But there also were enough wins to recover and lately the MLB betting system has been on a roll.
There have been 9 wins since June 25th alone!! The 2008 MLB record now stands at 35-2. It as been a great streak and I have built back my losses and then some as some of the match-ups allowed me to bet a high percentage of my bankroll, 7%. Can SportsBettingChamp Hit 75 Wins?
As of March 18th The SportsBettingChamp System is at 73 wins and only one loss. This total is 2 wins over its' previous record of 71 wins. Personally I think the system will hit 75 and has a great chance to hit 80 wins this season. At the beginning of the season, I was unsure if The SportsBettingChamp System would hit 70 wins this year, but when it did I was impressed. Ad I now have the confidence that 75 and 80 are within reach.
Of course the season did have one bump in it and the one loss did impact the bankroll. Yankees & Devil Rays in MLB Brawl....Gotta Love It!
You have to love it when the benches clear in MLB baseball. Well, it happened this afternoon when the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays got it going on. It happened in the 2nd inning of the game and resulted in 3 Yankees and 1 Devil Ray being booted from the game.
The action started when Yankee Shelley Duncan slid into Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura with his spikes up. He was given the boot right away, but not before Devil Ray, Jonny Gomes, came flying out of right field and plowed into Duncan.
That was all it took, the benches of the Yankees and Devil Rays cleared and the players raced onto the field. In the end, after the dust settled, the Yankees also had 3rd base coach Bobby Meacham and hitting coach Kevin Long get ejected. It didn't look like any punches were actually thrown after all. Typical baseball brawl...
That's not like a good fight in the NHL. When the gloves drop and two big guys square off there are usually a few good punches landed. But in an MLB fight, you see the occasional punch and sometimes a good fight, but mostly it always seems like chaos and not a big brawl. That is what happened with the Yankees and Devil Rays today.
In the end, the Yankees lost 2-0 and the Devil Rays recorded their 9th win. Dan Wheeler got the win with Gary Glover picking up a save, while Jonathan Albaladejo of the Yankees got their 5th loss.

NBA Betting Tonight & The SportsBettingChamp
With there only being 3 games in the NBA tonight there is still value to be found. Each game has its own risks, but one or two may fit into your low risk betting strategy. Let's run through them and you can decide if there's a pick or two that stands out. As always, be sure to use The SportsBettingChamp System as the first step in going through the day's games.
The first game and for me, the one that is the least attractive, has the Philadelphia 76'ers visiting the LA Clippers. The 76'ers have been playing well as of late going 9-3 since Feb. 5th and have won 9 of their last 12.
They hope to continue that in LA to night against the Clippers who have lost their last 5. That means they are now even farther out of the playoff race. Chris Mason did return last game and he should perform better tonight.
The line currently has Philly as a 2-1/2 point favorite. If I was going anywhere with this game I would say they should be able to do it.
The next game has a strong New Orleans Hornets team heading into New York to play the Knicks. The should come out fired up after losing to Washington on Sunday. They have a great 19-9 road record while the Knicks are under .500 at home.
The line has the Knicks as a 7 point underdog and that seems to be about right. I think the Hornets can cover it, but when you are coming off of a loss to a team you felt you should have beaten badly strange things can happen. By strange, I mean that it will repeat itself. You may call it superstition, but I take that factor into account when I look at match-ups. So, to me, the Hornets should cover, but you never know. If you feel like taking a gamble, buy a few points and take the Knicks against the spread.
Finally, we have the Utah Jazz hosting the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas would really like to get a big win and end Utah's 15 game home winning streak. The Mav's need to catch up a bit against the Western Conference teams, especially after splitting its last 4 games and having the 2 losses come against Western Conference powerhouses San Antonio and the Lakers.
The line has the Jazz as a 6 point favorite right now. I think they will win, but am not 100% sure they can cover. Their home record is tied for best in the league with Dallas at 25-3 and I can't see them losing ground on that tonight. But, the Mavericks have played tight with the top teams that they just lost to only losing by 3 in one game and 4 in the other. This might be another opportunity to buy a few points and pick the Mavericks up against the spread.

The line has the Jazz as a 6 point favorite right now. I think they will win, but am not 100% sure they can cover. Their home record is tied for best in the league with Dallas at 25-3 and I can't see them losing ground on that tonight. But, the Mavericks have played tight with the top teams that they just lost to only losing by 3 in one game and 4 in the other. This might be another opportunity to buy a few points and pick the Mavericks up against the spread.

Light Schedule In NBA Tonight
There are only 3 games in the NBA tonight. Before I go into them I want to congratulate Lebron James on becoming the youngest player in NBA history to hit the 10,000 point mark. Too bad it didn't happen on a winning night for the Cavaliers, but it is still quite an achievement. Now onto the NBA games tonight.
The first action in the NBA tonight is a match-up between two teams that are both in 4th place in their respective divisions. It has the Milwaukee Bucks visiting the New Jersey Nets. The Bucks are going to be trying to win their 3rd in a row for the first time since early January. While the Nets, are battling for a playoff spot since making the trade with the Mavericks that saw Jason Kidd leave. Tonight could mark the first time the guard the Nets got in return, Devin Harris takes to the court, but it will be a game time decision.
The line is currently around 3-1/2 in favor of the Nets. They should be able to cover that but at the same time, the Bucks have been playing OK at home and bad on the road. Is this the game where they pull one out or at least keep it down to the wire and cover the line?
The next game in the NBA tonight has the league's worst team, the Miami Heat going to play the best in the west, the LA Lakers. Miami will be trying to avoid losing 14 straight road game, which hasn't happened since the end of the 1990-1991 season. Meanwhile, the Lakers are doing the completely opposite. A win tonight would give them 10 straight and put them at 13-1 for the month of February. That great game play has moved the Lakers to the top of the West and just 2 wins shy of their total from last season.
The line has this game at 13-1/2 for the Lakers of course. It is a large number and even if you bought some points and pushed it a bit higher I would still be careful on betting against the Lakers. They are enjoying themselves and playing great ball, which is a combination that is hard to beat.
Finally, I get to the last game in the NBA tonight and it's a match up between two of the teams battling for the lead in the Southwest division. The Dallas Mavericks head to San Antonio to play the Spurs in what should be a great game. I will be watching this one to see if Jason Kidd can continue to play as well as he has in the last 2 games. He is helping the team pass more, as the Mavericks only had assists on 55% of their field goal this season, but that number is 68 percent in the last three games. It is helping Dallas become more of a passing team and opening up the court. The Spurs are playing well too as they are 23-5 at home and have won 6 straight. They did struggle a bit against the Hawks in their last game, but managed to win.
The line has moved up a half point from 4-1/2 to 5 in favor of the Spurs. You may want to have a look at this one if you think the Mav's can cover that or even possibly win straight out, as the moneyline is at +180 if you take Dallas.

3 Way NBA Trade - Cav's Get What They Need?
Another big trade has happened in the NBA. This time it's in the Eastern Conference. It is a complicated 3-way deal betweeen the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Seattle Supersonics.
Eleven players will have new homes and here is how it breaks down. The Cavaliers get center Ben Wallace and forward Joe Smith from the Bulls in exchange for guard Larry Hughes, forwards Drew Gooden and Cedric Simmons, and guard Shannon Brown.
And from the Supersonics, the Cavaliers get forward Wally Szczerbiak and guard Delonte West for forwards Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall.
Seattle gets guard Adrian Griffin from the Bulls. And the Bulls also give up their 2nd round pick in 2009 to the Cavaliers.
It looks like Cleveland will benefit from this trade the most. The defensive play of Wallace will help them down the middle although he hasn't put up a lot of points this year, averaging only 5.1 points and 8.8 rebounds, his worst numbers in 8 years. His presence though, will be a boost to the team in and out of the locker room and he has playoff experience too. The same can be said for veteran Smith who is averaging 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds. He adds some flexibility off of the bench and brings more experience to the Cav's.
The points should come from Szczerbiak who has averaged 13.1 points this year and is on a hot streak as of late. On Tuesday he scored 24 points for the Supersonics in their come from behind win over Memphis. He will be open more often in Cleveland as well as teams like to double team Lebron. I think he is the key for the Cavaliers in this trade.
Overall, sports bettors should watch for a strengthened Cavalier team, although there may be a bit longer then usual adjustment period. I am still ticked about the other night and the New Jersey Nets big loss to the Raptors. I mean they sit the guy, Jason Kidd, when the deal isn't even confirmed. I know that they don't want an injury or anything to happen to him but it cost the Nets the spread and the game.

NBA Saturday -SportsBettingChamp Pick Review
As you can all see I lost both of my picks that I posted yesterday. One I picked the wrong team completely and on the other I had the right team but lost to the line. Ouch. It happens and it sucks, but I will move on. Not by chasing my losses and betting more tonight, but by only betting on the low risk games.
I don't post The SportsBettingChamp picks on here and that is why I didn't tell you to play the LA Clippers or the Washington Wizards. Both covered the spread and won. The Celtics will be without Kevin Garnett, who is also missing his first chance to play in Minnesota since being traded. They have still been playing well and should cover the 6-1/2 points. I would bet this one now as that line may grow. The Celtics have scored more then 110 in 3 of their last 4 games while Minnesota has averaged only 91.2 points per game.

SportsBettingChamp & NBA Trade Action
Well, all of us users of The SportsBettingChamp System are now 54-1 on our bets because of the non-stop winning picks. Two more wins last night and the bankroll keeps on growing.
The system gave us wins last night picking San Antonio over the Indiana Pacers. This was an easy win for the Spurs and they covered by a lot, winning 116-89. Indiana was actually tied with the Spurs at the half, but folded in the 2nd half to lose by 27.
The 2nd winning pick from The SportsBettingChamp System was the Los Angeles Lakers visiting the New Jersey Nets. The Lakers played well, especially in the 2nd half. This game was also tied after two quarters and just like the other game, one team stepped it up in the 2nd half. The Lakers were that team and won 105 to 90 with the 15 points more then covering the spread.
The newly acquired Pau Gasol led the team with 24 points in his first game with the team. He picked up Kobe Bryant's slack, as Bryant only had 6 points, his first single point game in over a year. The new pick up came at the right time for the Lakers.

One that seems to be true and nearing an actual deal is the Phoenix Suns acquiring Shaquille O'Neal from the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion. I myslef do not think that it would be a good thing for the Suns. Shaq is too run down and would end up spending more time on the sidelines with injury then having any sort of impact on the floor. Sports Betting Champ Picks 2 More NBA Winners
The winning didn't stop for The Sports Betting Champ System last night. Add two more wins and that will make the total 52 on the NBA season as of today and still only 1 loss.
The best NBA betting system there is picked the win by the LA Clippers over the New York Knicks. The Clippers knocked New York around a bit and beat them by 9. That easily covered the line, even without extra points. Corey Maggette scored 19 points in his return to the lineup and it all helped.
I think the Knicks were still in some sort of New York Super Bowl daze and the same could be said for the crowd, as the biggest cheers of the night were for some of the New York Giants players in attendance. Three of the Super Bowl Champions were there, defensive backs Sam Madison, R.W. McQuarters and Kevin Dockery and they got a standing ovation that went on and on.
