NBA All-Star Break & Your Betting Scorecard

I am still ticked about the other night and the New Jersey Nets big loss to the Raptors. I mean they sit the guy, Jason Kidd, when the deal isn't even confirmed. I know that they don't want an injury or anything to happen to him but it cost the Nets the spread and the game.

Anyway, it's the all-star break and the league's GM's are looking at their players and teams overall and putting together a score card on them. Each one will determine what's needed for the home stretch, racing towards the playoffs. By now we all have a good idea of which teams are going to be in the playoffs and which teams are going to be fighting to squeak in. The GM's also know this and that's why there has been so much trade action lately.

There's still a few more deals that will most likely happen, as the teams that have not acted are looking at the ones that have and deciding what is needed to match-up against them. Big centers have been the flavor this year and as always they are an integral part to most championship teams.

The GM's will look to the teams that are in their conference and possible playoff adversaries. They will look at injuries and who may not be healthy come playoff time. They will look at the bench and strengthen it if they can. Teams that are likely to miss the playoffs might be looking to get rid of a big salary or an older player as they rebuild.

For the NBA bettor this means that teams will be going through some player changes that will affect performance. Watch the big trades and how teams play for the first 2-3 games. Some players will be quick to learn the system and will play hard and settle in right away. Especially if they have gone from a losing team to a contending one.

The opposite can happen with the player going the other way. They can become disinterested and play without any passion or heart. Or they can come out with a chip on their shoulder and have something to prove to their last team. It all depends on personalities and their new environment.

So, review your team scorecards and make adjustments as quickly as you can after a trade. Watch for any lines that you can exploit if you know a player is going to miss a game because they are getting traded. Or if you feel the line is weak because the trade hasn't been reflected in it correctly. These things do happen, so check your multiple sportsbooks for the best line available.
